The Mazatlán-Durango highway project is the last link in a transversal inter-oceanic corridor connecting Mexico’s Pacific Coast with the Gulf of Mexico. This roadway approaches to U.S. border at the Lower Rio Grande Valley, where there are multiple points of entry, before reaching the port city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. This transportation infrastructure development is expected to double the agricultural shipments to our region, that already leads the nation in produce imports. The trend is expected to continue the rapid growth due in part to:

  • 65% of the produce Texas exports is grown in Mexico
  • Reduction in transportation time and freight rates
  • Proximity of RGV ports to Eastern Seaboard Market
  • Availability of year round crop production in Mexican climate
