Working Together

WORKING TOGETHER TO PROTECT ANIMAL HEALTH

Starr Camargo Bridge Company Vice President Robert Vale joined regional leaders, state partners, and industry representatives in a recent meeting focused on awareness, prevention, and response efforts regarding the New World Screwworm (NWS).

The New World Screwworm primarily affects animals through open wounds, where fly larvae (maggots) can develop and cause serious tissue damage. Proper wound care, early detection, and timely reporting remain key to prevention efforts.

At this time, no cases have been reported in the United States; however, regional agencies continue proactive preparedness and awareness efforts to help protect livestock, wildlife, agriculture, and our communities.
Officials encourage producers and the public to remain informed, monitor animals carefully, keep wounds clean and protected, and report suspected cases immediately to the appropriate animal health authorities.
Preparedness begins with awareness.
